     In the New York City public school system, the person who supervises the delivery of special education services in the Community School District or High School Superintendency is titled the District Administrator for Special Education (DASE). Citywide Special Education programs are administered by the District 75 Superintendency. The Committee on Special Education of the District/High School Superintendency is responsible for handling referrals, evaluation and placement of students. Students who are hard of hearing or visually impaired (HHVI) are served by an HHVI Office in each Borough of the city. The central Board of Education’s Office of Monitoring and School Improvement (OMSI) oversees all schools; its Deputy Assistant Superintendents monitor the schools by Borough.

     The Board of Education (BOE) advises that if you have questions or concerns regarding the special education services being provided to your child, you should bring these concerns to the principal of your child’s school and then to the Community School District/High School/District 75 Superintendent. If your concerns have still not been resolved, the BOE advises you to contact the OMSI Deputy Assistant Superintendent responsible for the District or Borough in which your child attends school.
